Welcome to Starcannon399's Doom Halloween special! Part 3, Wormwood III: The Horror! I'm a little more mixed on this one. The openers are easily my favorite of the series so far, both Ribbiks' "Life?" and Grain Of Salt's "Vampire Killer" are fairly solid outings, especially thanks to yet another fantastic Ribbiks midi with map 1's ait.mid, but the centerpiece map left me a little bit disappointed. There's some cool sections but the major fights are less memorable than in Expanded Universe's finale, and the ending fight just being "run around a circle and try not to die while waiting till the super arachnotrons on the balconies kill everything" is a little anticlimactic. Its still got a gorgeous visual style and I like the foreboding midi, but it feels lacking when compared to "Stabbed, With A Sword" from Expanded Universe. Wormwood 3's custom dehacked shenanigans feel much cooler than EU's bouncy purple wall gimmick, but they end up heavily underused in the finale. There's a weird red floor that kills anything that touches it which I'm pretty sure only shows up once right at the very start of map 1, and the furnaces that spit out green death meteors are used for some cool fights and platforming sections during downtime in map 3, but I kinda wish Ribbiks did more with them overall. Wormwood 3 is far from bad, it's still quality stuff, but it lacks the brisk pace of the original and the majestic finale of Expanded Universe, and overall left me wanting a little more by the end.

Rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Favorite/Least Favorite Map skipped because there's only 3 maps and I enjoyed all of them about equally.
