[STARCANNON399'S DEAN OF DOOM SEASON 4 WAD REVIEWS: PART 1 - SUNDER]
Back when Dean of Doom Season 4 first got announced I made myself a promise: Play through every wad featured this season before watching the episode. Needless to say, seeing Sunder be episode ONE... killed that plan right there on the spot. I did end up playing a few maps, but to be honest nothing grabbed me, and I ended up getting distracted by mario world romhacks and the recent release of Denshattack (fucking amazing by the way). I've gotten significantly more used to doom slaughtermaps over time, going from "lmao fuck that" to "hey wait this is actually kinda cool", but at the end of the day, I'm not a challenge seeker. Sunder's lack of difficulty settings already worried me a lot, but ultimately it makes sense. This wad wants to be a singular challenge for totally insane people who're DEEP into this type of doom content, and that's not me. I like more open maps, i like vibing and wandering through cool environments more than i like being in a singular pit of death and suffering where there's no room for error and the only way out is through. I'm still too bad at doom to truly tackle this mapset in a way that would be decently enjoyable for me. Could I eventually beat these maps? Probably. But it'd take more hours off my life and more will to live from my soul than would ever balance out the satisfaction of finishing it. Maybe one day, or with a funny weapon mod, but for now, I'll lock this one back into the box it came from, and go back to doing tony hawk tricks with a subway train while tee lopes cooks harder than ever before on the soundtrack.
This wad's Dean of Doom episode was DAMN good though, MtPain's writing continues to get better and better, and it's nice to at least get a little of the feeling for how these maps are to play, even if it's only part of the full wad.
