DAMN. BTSX is a fantastically consistent wad with a lot of well made levels, packaged in a beautiful techbase-y texture set, and served with one of the best soundtracks in doom, rivaling eviternity 2's in terms of quality. However, "consistent" is the key word here. BTSX's overall approach to level design and custom texture set do one thing very very well, but that one thing for 26 maps does get exhausting after a while. Maps 14-21 are a pretty exhausting low point for this wad (secret maps not included), and map 19 gets a special shoutout for being a really awkward difficulty spike (and of COURSE it's a tarnsman map). I do really like the short intermission hub levels in the tram station, maybe it's just my affinity for train related things but there's a certain vibe to them that I really appreciate. And again, I really can't understate how incredible the soundtrack is on this wad, there's so many standout tracks; "Phobophobe", "Conductor", "Untilted", "Atomic", "Womp", "Within Reach", even naming just a few favorites still ended up with me listing a big chunk of the ost anyway. I still think BTSX is a really fantastic wad, but be careful not to play too much of it at once so you can prevent fatigue.
